Animal Crossing fans who are waiting for any news of the next game might have a new title coming that’ll fill that cozy-island-living-shaped hole in their hearts. Heartopia is a cozy game in the style of Animal Crossing and MySims from developer XD International that’s scheduled to release sometime in 2026.

The development and publishing company has previously worked on successful titles like Go!Go!Muffin, a mobile version of classic MMO Ragnarok Online, Torchlight: Infinite, and many others. Now, the studio is turning its attention to the cozy gaming community with the adorable upcoming game, Heartopia.

Heartopia Looks Adorable, And It’s Completely Free

Explore A Cute World At Your Leisure

Heartopia is an ultra-stylized, cute game with a strong emphasis on self-expression without limits. The game will apparently include absolutely no stamina systems or daily checklists, giving players the freedom to interact with the world however they want.

The title will have several hobbies to try, including classics like fishing, cooking, and gardening, and some more unusual options like birdwatching and caring for cats. However, players can also completely ignore all those and simply hang out with friends or enjoy the cute environments and critters.

A robust customization system will allow players to make every part of their little house their own, down to the bricks and furniture, and over 1,000 clothing items will ensure they do it in style. Best of all, Heartopia will be completely free to play.

The upcoming game adopts and expands on the style of MySims to look and feel even more whimsical. Its rounded, large-eyed style is accompanied by some stunning environments that promise no loading times and open-world exploration at the players’ whims.

    The MySims Vibes Are Strong

    A Cozy, Free-To-Play MMO

Heartopia ran a beta earlier this month, and player reactions have been mostly positive. The game seems to deliver the peaceful, charming vibes that it promises, with many fans praising it for its cute style and relaxing nature. Beta players report having lots of fun with the game, especially with the multiplayer options.

There are countless screenshots shared to the Heartopia X account from testers like zivly4 on X that show off the beautiful world and players hanging out with friends in their personalized spaces.

Some members of the cozy community have voiced concerns about the monetization of this title when it launches. Since the game will be free, and XD International has plenty of experience with mobile games and mobile-style microtransactions, some worry about what this means for how the company will make money from Heartopia.

Other beta players report that the hobbies do use an energy and tool durability system, which seems to contradict the “no stamina bars” claim. Still, the system is reportedly not limiting and doesn’t detract from the fun and freedom of the overall gameplay.

As of right now, it seems that Heartopia is gearing up to be an excellent free Animal Crossing alternative with some very strong MySims vibes. Another beta is scheduled for December, and the game itself will launch in early 2026.
