If last week’s big Divinity announcement got you excited to see what all the fuss is about, we’ve got some good news: Divinity: Original Sin 2 just got a surprise free upgrade on multiple platforms.
For those that might not know, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the last game Larian Studios worked on before Baldur’s Gate 3. The two games share plenty of similarities, in that they’re both massive RPGs with lots of tactical turn-based combat and difficult choices to make along the way. This new upgrade should keep you busy while we wait for the brand-new Divinity.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 Is Free To Upgrade Now
I love to see it, I really do
Frankly, I always thought it was a miracle that Larian ever got Divinity: Original Sin 2 running on Nintendo Switch. While it certainly did the job, some concessions had to be made to get the game running on the older hardware. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is a particularly exciting prospect, then. But a free upgrade is also available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, assuming you own the last-gen version of the game for the console you’re looking to upgrade on.
Here’s Larian’s pitch for Divinity: Original Sin 2:
From the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, experience the world of Divinity in this epic adventure where your choices shape fate itself.
The Divine is dead. The Void approaches. And the powers lying dormant within you are soon to awaken. Choose your role in a BAFTA-winning story, and explore a world that reacts to who you are, and the choices you make. With five races to choose from, and an adventure playable solo or as a party of up to four, lay waste to an oppressive order in a world afraid of magic. Become the God the world so desperately needs. Divinity: Original Sin 2: Definitive Edition is the most complete version of the best-selling, Metacritic Must-Play RPG.
The Next Divinity Game Won’t Be Out For A While
Play this while you wait
It’s just as well Divinity: Original Sin 2 is getting an update, because by all accounts we won’t be seeing the new Divinity for years and years.
We have no idea whether Larian will do Early Access for Divinity. But when you consider how well it worked for Baldur’s Gate 3, it’ll probably happen. That means an Early Access launch could come sooner than expected, but a full release will still be a long way off. Especially since Larian has explicitly said this latest project is its biggest game yet — and Baldur’s Gate 3 wasn’t exactly small.
