Pharrell Williams has canceled a forthcoming musical biopic about his life, Variety experiences. Golden, directed by Michel Gondry and initially set for launch on Could 5, will not see launch as a result of “there wasn’t a path ahead to inform the model of this story that we initially envisioned,” in accordance with a joint press assertion from Williams and Gondry. “We admire all of the onerous work of the gifted forged and crew. Whereas we’re upset we are able to’t ship this movie, we’ve got unbelievable companions at Common and can collaborate in a special capability once more quickly.”
Golden had already been filmed with a star-studded forged of musicians and actors, together with Halle Bailey, Missy Elliott, Janelle Monáe, Da’Vine Pleasure Randolph, Anderson .Paak, and Quinta Brunson. A coming-of-age story centered on Williams’ upbringing in Virginia Seaside within the Nineteen Seventies, the musical was to be “a celebration of Black life, Black tradition, and most significantly, Black pleasure,” in accordance with a 2024 interview with Williams.
Common Footage, the studio behind Golden, will reportedly take up roughly $20 million in prices spent on manufacturing.
