Priyanka Chopra is officially returning to Indian cinema after a seven-year hiatus, and her comeback comes with a fun twist. The actor has revealed that she had just one request before saying yes to SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus Varanasi and it ended up affecting her co-star Mahesh Babu in a big way.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Priyanka shared that when Rajamouli approached her with the film, she immediately connected with the character but couldn’t resist making a special request. Having spent several years away from Hindi and Indian cinema, she asked the filmmaker if he would let her dance on screen again. What followed, however, was far more demanding than she had anticipated.
Priyanka recalled joking that she “should not have asked” because the film features extensive dance sequences. Laughing about the experience, she revealed that Mahesh Babu had to join her in the demanding choreography, adding that he jokingly blamed her for making him dance as well.
Mahesh Babu, who plays the film’s protagonist, confirmed that the song sequence is already shaping up to be a standout moment. He described it as “sensational,” revealing that one song has already been shot and is so catchy that it keeps replaying in their minds. He also shared that Priyanka often hums the tune on set, reinforcing just how memorable the number is.
Fans were quick to react to the revelations, flooding social media with excitement. Many called the pairing of Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu “absolute cinema,” while others eagerly demanded a sneak peek of the song.
Directed by SS Rajamouli, Varanasi marks his first project after the global success of RRR (2022). The film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist and sees Priyanka in an action-driven role as Mandakini. Set against the backdrop of time travel, the action-adventure has already sparked intense fan speculation.
Adding to the buzz, Rajamouli has confirmed that Mahesh Babu will portray Lord Rama in one of the film’s sequences. Scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2027, Varanasi promises spectacle, scale and thanks to Priyanka’s request, some unforgettable dance moves.
