Pulp are again for More. The Britpop maestros, whose affect surpassed the Nineties scene and forged a spell on indie-pop for many years to return, will return with their follow-up to 2001’s We Love Life on June 6. Extra, out by way of their new label home, Rough Trade, was recorded at London’s Orbb Studio over three weeks of November 2024 with producer James Ford. “That is the shortest period of time a Pulp album has ever taken to file,” Jarvis Cocker wrote in an announcement. “It was clearly able to occur.” Watch the video for the one “Spike Island,” directed by Cocker himself, beneath.
The video, stated Cocker in a press launch, is an inquiry into synthetic intelligence by way of the repurposing of Rankin & Donald’s images from the Different Class inlay. He fed the photographs into an A.I. app to “see the place the pc led” him, typing in prompts corresponding to, “The black & white determine stays nonetheless while the bus within the background drives off.” He added, “The weekend I started work on the video was a wierd time: I went out of the home & saved anticipating bizarre transformations of the encircling surroundings because of the pictures the pc had been producing. How did that occur?
Nicely: once we began touring once more in 2023, we practiced a brand new tune referred to as “Hymn of the North” throughout soundchecks & finally performed it on the finish of our second evening at Sheffield Enviornment. The album was recorded over 3 weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, beginning on November 18th, 2024. That is the shortest period of time a Pulp album has ever taken to file. It was clearly able to occur.
