Code 3 has become a No. 1 streaming hit in the United States. Released in theaters in September 2024, the new movie stars Rain Wilson, who is best known for his role as Dwight Schrute in The Office, for which he received three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series from 2007 to 2009.
Now, Code 3 ranks first on Hulu’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, January 12, where it has been for the past two days, per FlixPatrol. It finished above Together, RED, Bad Moms, Superbad, Son in Law, The Toxic Avenger (2023), RED 2, Resident Evil, and The Ritual Killer.
Code 3 also ranks eighth on Hulu’s Top 10 overall for today, ranking below TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, High Potenital, 20/20, The Rookie, 9-1-1: Nashville, Best Medicine, and above Will Trent, The Masked Singer, Abbott Elementary, Doc, Hell’s Kitchen, and TMZ Investigates: The Reiner Murders: What Really Happened.
Directed by Christopher Leone, who co-wrote the script with Patrick Pianezza, Code 3 stars Rainn Wilson as a burnt-out paramedic who decides to quit, but before he dies, must complete one final 24-hour shift to train his rookie replacement and what starts as a normal day quickly unravels into a chaotic whirlwind of emergencies, bizarre encounters, and revealing moments that expose the harsh realities of life on the front lines.
In addition to Rainn Wilson in the lead role, the cast also includes Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Aimee Carrero, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) Rob Riggle, Page Kennedy, Cameron Fuller, Ayesha Harris, Dalia Rooni, and Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle).
In ScreenRant‘s review of Code 3, Ben Gibbons writes, “I’m blown away by how much of Rainn Wilson’s dark comedy was authentic and meaningful… Code 3 is an unexpected masterpiece of storytelling that navigates dark, tense humor and deep, meaningful emotion with depth and profound skill…. Code 3 is a heart-warming drama disguised as a cynical dark comedy, but that is precisely what makes it so good.”
Code 3 has a 78% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, coupled with a 96% audience score. It had a quiet theatrical release in September 2025, making a miniscule $12,140 at the box office.
Together, this surge underscores how medical dramas are having a moment, with The Pitt season 2‘s premiere and its recent Golden Globe win for Best Television Series – Drama reflecting a renewed appetite for stories set on the front lines. Like The Pitt, Code 3 confronts burnout, emotional exhaustion, and the relentless pressure emergency medical professionals face in high-stress and fast-paced environments.
