In his speech, Ranveer said, “I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi Daiva) enters your body — that shot was amazing.” He did not end there, but went on to emulate Rishab’s act in the film’s climax sequence, triggering laughter from Rishab. Ranveer then went on to ask the crowd whether they wanted to see him in Kantara 3. When many rooted for him, on a lighter note, he appealed to them to put in a word to Rishab. Ranveer’s depiction (of Chamundi Daiva) stirred controversy and triggered widespread criticism on social media. Netizens are schooling Ranveer saying that he needs to understand Daiva is a Goddess and not a female ghost. They are also labelling the Bollywood actor’s act as very disrespectful and insensitive (the way he mocked Daiva) to Tulu culture and the sacred tradition of Daiva worship.
Fans call Ranveer’s act, Blasphemy
Ranveer’s comments – calling Chamundi Daiva a female ghost – did not go down well with fans on social media. Fans are calling out him and describing his act of mimicking as Blasphemy. “Ranveer Singh literally called chavundi mata a ghost and mimicked her in funny way. Isn’t this Blasphemy,” wrote one user. “Dear @RanveerOfficial you don’t know the difference between God and Ghost. Exactly the reason for the audience to loose focus from your brilliant acting skills and mock you more for this idiocy,” commented another user.
