Star Trek Upgrades Becky Lynch’s WWE Intercontinental Championship

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy just upgraded Becky Lynch’s WWE Intercontinental Championship and made it even bigger. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres with two episodes on January 15 on Paramount+. Lynch, billed under her real name, Rebecca Quin, is part of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s cast.

“The Man” Becky Lynch made history on the January 5 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW when she defeated Maxxine Dupri to become WWE’s first two-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Lynch’s championship win was one of the main events of RAW’s second anniversary on Netflix.

Walking the red carpet at Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s world premiere in New York City, Becky Lynch toted her newly won WWE Intercontinental Championship. Speaking to host Celia Rose Gooding from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Lynch announced, “We’re gonna rename it the Intergalactic Championship” in honor of her role in Star Trek. Read her quote below:

I won the Intercontinental Championship. And some people say, not some people, everybody says I’m the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. First two-time Intercontinental Champion.

But you know what, we’re gonna change the name of the Intercontinental Championship. We’re gonna rename it the Intergalactic Championship. We’re taking this to a whole different galaxy, okay?

After Becky Lynch regained the Intercontinental Championship on Monday Night, the official Star Trek Instagram shared a Story of Becky’s victory with the caption, “Congrats to our new intergalactic champ!” The Man clearly has taken this promotion and ran with it.

Fittingly, Becky Lynch wore yellow wrestling gear similar in design to her Starfleet uniform for her Intercontinental Championship match with Maxxine Dupri on Monday Night RAW. The Man’s synergy between her WWE and Star Trek careers was on full display.

In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Rebecca Quin plays Lieutenant Ya, a member of the bridge crew of the USS Athena. Lt. Ya is one of the Starfleet officers serving under Captain Nahla Ake, played by Academy Award winner Holly Hunter, who leads Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s cast.

Becky Lynch is the latest high-profile WWE Superstar to join Star Trek. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson guest-starred on Star Trek: Voyager in 2001, and Paul “The Big Show” Wight appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.

The “WWE Intergalactic Championship” is probably an honorary name for Becky Lynch in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, rather than an official rebrand. Still, the “Intergalactic Championship” isn’t quite the grandest WWE title name. From 2016 to 2024, WWE’s top prize was the Universal Championship, until it was retired by Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who is also a diehard fan of Star Trek.
