Teddy Swims Says He Uses AI to Make Music

Teddy Swims has admitted to incorporating artificial intelligence tools into his music-making process.

The singer spoke at SXSW Sydney about AI, calling it a “truly amazing” and “super helpful” technology that he’s already used when writing music. In a specific instance, Swims explained that his producers in Los Angeles were able to use AI to change one of his lyrics.

“Rather than me going [to] the studio and doing the line 15 times and spending that time and money and effort, he’s actually been able to go in and just change the word,” Swims said.

Swims also acknowledged utilizing AI song prompts to reimagine different songs in different genres. “What we’ll do is maybe just take an acoustic and write the melody and the lyrics and just get the song done and upload it into it and say, ‘Okay, I want to hear this song as a country song’ or ‘I want to hear this song as a rock and roll song,’” he admitted.

“Instead of taking time to reproduce something over and over and over again in so many different ways that would take months sometimes to do, you can get the idea of what something would be fully fleshed out in this lane,” Swims continued. “If you use it the correct way, I think it’s a beautiful tool.”

Whether or not AI had a hand in it, Swims has been on a roll as of late. His hit song “Lose Control” was recently certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America after its sales broke past the 10 million unit mark in the United States alone.
