Showrunner Howard Gordon addresses The Beast in Me season 2’s prospects. Netflix’s new psychological thriller miniseries arrived on the streaming service on November 13, and there are already discussions about extending it beyond its initial eight episodes.

In an interview with PEOPLE, showrunner Howard Gordon was asked if there is potential for The Beast in Me season 2, and he offered a brief and straightforward reply, “Always. We’ll see how the show does and I would say if there’s a story, we would be open to it.”

Regarding what a second season might entail, Gordon says he hasn’t started exploring any concepts yet. “No, not yet. Well, to myself.”

Created by Gabe Rotter, The Beast in Me follows an author who, still mourning her son’s death, discovers a renewed purpose as she digs into the disappearance of her neighbor’s wife and his seemingly shady activities.

The Beast in Me‘s cast includes Emmy winners Claire Danes (Homeland) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans), reuniting after starring together on Homeland, alongside Brittany Snow, Natalie Morales, Tim Guinee, and six-time Emmy nominee Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul).

The Beast in Me has received positive reviews from critics for rising beyond the standard murder mystery and delivering a gripping psychological showdown energized by standout performances from Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, resulting in an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score.

For the week of November 10–16, The Beast in Me ranks first on Netflix’s Global Top 10 shows with 6.9 million views. So, if the show’s performance with critics and audiences is any indication, a second season seems likely.
