The Pitt season 2’s trailer has finally been released, revealing that a controversial ship fans of the series have been debating over is all but canon in the upcoming season. While The Pitt is less about romance than most other procedurals, the series did spark conversation surrounding some of it’s potential pairings throughout the show’s successful first season on HBO Max.

Though The Pitt has yet to lean into the romantic side of the lives of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s finest, it’s definitely something that fans have been hopeful for. While watching the first season it was clear that sparks may be flying between Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Heather Collins (Tracey Ifeachor), but with Ifeachor not returning for The Pitt season 2, many got creative.

The dynamics between the doctors, nurses, and staff on The Pitt has been the focal point of the entire series thus far. As they move through the most delicate and difficult of moments together, the Emergency Department staff have to rely on one another to be solid, sound, and steady. That, of course, makes the show rife with the possibilities of romance.

Although The Pitt season 2’s trailer appears to be ushering in a whole new weekends worth of trauma for the team, one big reunion is sure to make waves throughout department. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), who was bounced out by Robby on the stipulation he’d be heading to a rehab for his addiction to prescription pills, will be returning to PTMC during the new season.

Langdon, who spent the majority of the first season in an adversarial war with new intern, Dr. Trinity Santos (Isa Briones), appears to be hopeful that his return won’t have much fanfare attached. Unfortunately for him, it appears that one of his colleagues at PTMC is more excited about his return than viewers may have anticipated.

For a moment in The Pitt season 2 trailer, it appears that the show is going lean into the relationship between Langdon and Dr. Mel King (Taylor Dearden). In the trailer, Mel is shown excited that Langdon has returned, reaching out to hug him before seemingly thinking better of it. While Langdon consistently appears to be struggling during the trailer, the moment with Mel raises questions.

Could The Pitt Season 2 Feature Mel And Langdon In A Romantic Light?

Although there’s no true confirmation that viewers can expect The Pitt season 2 to lean into a romance between Mel and Langdon, some fans have been hopeful to see their dynamic explored. After building a solid foundation in the first season, The Pitt season 2 definitely has space to look at their connection from a fresh perspective.

Seeing Mel’s reaction to Langdon’s return makes it seem like The Pitt could definitely be exploring a more romantic avenue for the pair, even if it doesn’t materialize for some time. The series is known to play the long game thus far, and building a relationship between two central characters could allow The Pitt to explore a slow-burning connection.
