Hello, and Merry Christmas to all those celebrating the day! The Princess of Wales chose familiar pieces for today’s walk to and from church at Sandringham.

The post also covers a video released yesterday with the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte performing a piano duet.

First, Christmas Day, and a full complement of Royal Family members attending services at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the grounds of the Sandringham estate. Below, the King, Queen, the Princess Royal (behind the Queen) with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Zara Tindall.

More about the church from its website.

St Mary Magdalene, the parish church of Sandringham, is used regularly as a place of worship by The Royal Family when in residence – most notably at Christmas time.

The beautiful medieval church is free to visit when the House and Gardens are open, and has held many celebrations, such as Princess Charlotte’s christening, as well as memorials to members and relations of The Royal Family from Queen Victoria onwards.

The Earl of Wessex, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and Lady Louise Windsor.

Here you can see Zara Tindall, Prince William, Prince Louis, along with Lena and Mia Tindall.

In this image, you can see Sir Tim, Lady Louise, and her brother, the Earl of Wessex.

I thought this was a lovely photo of Princess Charlotte after church.

After the service, the royals spent time greeting well-wishers gathered near St. Mary Magdalene.

You can see the Princess chatting with someone here, the rest of the family off to the left, and other royal family members in the background.

Many bring gifts for the royal family.

Princess Charlotte waves to the crowd.

This video shows the Edinburgh family greeting well-wishers after church.

Another view of the Princess of Wales.

Some of those gathered near the church arrived last night to get a good viewing spot.  The Daily Mail reports there were more than 500 people gathered near the church to see the royals.

Wheelchair-bound Maureen Pitt, 90, travelled to see the Royals from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, with her daughter Vanessa Pitt, who acts as her carer.

The widow came with four selection boxes for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as Zara and Mike Tindall’s daughter Mia, but said: ‘I told William not to let them have them until later because they’ve probably had enough chocolate already this morning.

‘He was lovely, just so ordinary – he’s just like his mother. He asked me my name and I gave him the chocolate.

‘Kate and the children were lovely too.’

In this video from Hello magazine, you see Prince Louis and Prince George with their father.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore this Christmas Day, beginning with her BLAZÉ Milano ‘Lahloo Anyway’ Coat.

Featuring a large windowpane check in shades of brown and burgundy, the coat showcases a double-breasted silhouette with a nipped-in waist, peaked lapels, strong shoulders, and the brand’s ‘smiley pockets.’ Here you see it in the jacket style.

It was first noted on Christmas Day 2021 (shown below), when we had just a glimpse of it.

The coat was seen again in mid-January when the Princess visited Royal Marsden Hospital, then again at a February engagement, and then again today.

From what we could see, it looks like the Princess wore her Gucci Pleated Checked Wool-Twill Midi Skirt in burgundy beneath the coat.

The Princess wore a hat by Juliette Botterill we’d not seen before: the milliner’s Felt Lace Percher Hat (£650, about $880 at today’s exchange rates), in chocolate-brown peachbloom felt with intricate cutouts. The description notes it is “worn on a slim headband with hat elastic, available in your choice of hair colour to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.” Thank you to Kate Middleton Styled on Instagram for the hat ID.

She carried her Hudson Bag ($525) by DeMellier London, first noted at a November engagement.

The Princess brought back her Gianvito Rossi custom boots in brown suede, similar to the brand’s Glen style, although the Glen has a more rounded toe than the boots worn by the Princess.

She also repeated her Silk Scarf in Autumn Partridge (no longer available) by Really Wild Clothing.

A fitting choice, as we first saw the scarf on Christmas Day 2014.

She wore her brown Imogen gloves by Cornelia James.

And her Cartier Trinity Earrings in 18-carat yellow, rose, and white gold.

Princess Charlotte’s coat is a Catherine Walker design. Her shoes are by Tory Burch, the Cap Toe Croc-Effect Suede Ballet Flats ($300 at Zappos), with thanks again to Kate Middleton Styled for the shoe ID.

We now move to the video released yesterday showing the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte performing a piano duet.

The video was recorded earlier this month at Windsor Castle’s Inner Hall and was used to open the ‘Together at Christmas‘ carol concert shown last night and again today on ITV. The duo performed Scottish composer Erland Cooper’s “Holm Sound.”

We learn more about the composition from India McTaggart’s story in The Telegraph.

Cooper, an award-winning composer and producer from the Orkney Islands, joined the duo earlier in December at the Princess’s request, to film the segment. He composed the classical piece at the height of the Covid pandemic, taking inspiration from the wild environment of the Orkneys.

He shares a love of the natural world with the Princess of Wales, who initially wrote to Cooper to express her appreciation for his music and to thank him for his dedication to promoting nature through his art.

    And here is the video.

Love and connection through music 💕

Another photo of the mother-daughter duo from the taping.

We return to The Telegraph’s piece.

Cooper, 43, said: “We had a very warm, creative conversation earlier in the year, which was lovely, and then it culminated with an invitation to Windsor Castle. The Princess asked: ‘Would it be OK if we perform this piece of music that we so enjoy together?’

“It was such a lovely request so I said absolutely, no problem at all. I was invited to witness this incredible bond between mother and daughter performing together and for that I am so grateful.

“And there’s a wonderful bit of serendipity as the piece was composed and dedicated to my mum, also called Charlotte. They didn’t know that.”

In the video, the Princess wears a dark green velvet maxi dress or gown. You can see her ‘Fern Drop Earrings‘ by Catherine Zoraida and Halcyon Days Maya Torque Bangle in the Diamond colorway, first noted at Wimbledon this summer.

Charlotte Princess is wearing the ‘Diana’ Merino Wool Jumper in navy from La Coqueta Kids and what looks like Boden’s Fully Lined Button Kilt, with thanks to Kate Middleton Styled for those IDs.

One more Christmas-time update to share involves Prince George following in his father’s footsteps by visiting The Passage charity, just as his father did back in 1993.

Here is the guest book with the royal visitors’ names.

And here is a brief video commemorating the visit.

Proud to join volunteers and staff at The Passage in preparing Christmas lunch – this year with another pair of helping hands!
