You might want to start that new playthrough of The Witcher 3 soon. Reports of the long-rumored surprise DLC for the classic RPG have only intensified over the past few weeks, with the most recent claims pointing to a release in just a few short months. Mark your calendars, Geralt is coming back.
For those that might have missed it, reports suggest that CD Projekt RED is planning to release a brand-new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that will serve as a prologue to the upcoming The Witcher 4, itself possibly launching as soon as 2027.
The Witcher 3’s 2026 DLC Is Coming Soon
What now you piece of filth?
Along with a Q4 2027 release prediction for The Witcher 4, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski believes The Witcher 3‘s new paid expansion will launch in May 2026 and cost $30. Sales of 11 million copies are also assumed.
If you’ve never played a paid CDPR expansion before, you should know they never miss. The Witcher 3‘s original two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are considered among the best DLC of all time. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is also absolutely fantastic, so I have to believe they wouldn’t release an expansion for an 11-year-old game unless they were sure it could deliver the goods.
It’s worth noting that, according to reports, the new DLC isn’t being exclusively handled by CDPR. Fool’s Theory, who are also working on the remake of The Witcher, are apparently leading work on the expansion. This DLC is also predicted to “kick off the proper marketing campaign for The Witcher 4.”

Wind’s howling
If I had to guess, I’d say this expansion for The Witcher 3 will focus on Geralt handing over the reigns to Ciri, who we know is set to star as the main character in The Witcher 4. How exactly this will work in a game that has multiple endings in which Ciri is dead, I don’t know. But that’s not for me to work out. I think we all always knew the good ending, in which Geralt helps Ciri start her new life as a Witcher, was the canon ending.
For now, I think the best thing we can all do is start a new playthrough of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Not that I ever need much of an excuse to do that at the best of times, mind you.
