The Witcher 3 2026 Plans Make The Witcher 4 Wait Easier

As we wait for the release of The Witcher 4 to show off more of its gorgeous environments, The Witcher 3 is still going strong. Mod support has been a big reason for that, but not everyone can partake at the moment.

Shared on Bluesky, The Witcher team explains the holdup, noting that a significant feature for the game is coming in 2026. No precise date was given, but at the very least, we know it was delayed from 2025.

The Witcher 3 Cross Mod Support Hits Consoles Next Year

    It’s About Time

Initially, cross-platform modding support for The Witcher 3 was slated for late 2025, which would have linked the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Now it’s delayed until 2026, as CD Projekt Red works out the kinks, sharing the delay with the following message: “We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release.”

This update is described as “one more patch” for The Witcher 3, implying that this is the last big hurrah for the legendary best-selling RPG. According to the publisher, they’re still sticking with cross-platform modding as a free service, but there will be some limitations.

Straight from the official FAQ for cross-platform modding support is this proviso: “Due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console.” In other words, absolutely everything may not be available on consoles, but it’s presumably close enough.

It Should Keep Us Busy Till The Witcher 4

So far, all eyes are on The Witcher 4, especially given that the last major game CD Projekt Red released was Cyberpunk 2077, which was initially marred by disaster. While it makes sense that the publisher would take their time on The Witcher 4 to polish it up, it is launching it on fewer platforms (PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S for now), which could make for a smoother development cycle.

When cross-platform mod support hits The Witcher 3, though, it should make the wait a lot easier to manage. With greater ease to share creations, modding will be better than ever in The Witcher universe.
