A first look at the brand-new Tomb Raider has leaked ahead of the game awards, showing us our redesigned Lara Croft, along with the game’s apparent title and some gameplay screenshots.
If we don’t count the recent remasters, we haven’t seen a brand-new Tomb Raider game since 2018’s Shadow Of The Tomb Raider brought the rebooted trilogy to a close. We already know thanks to an official announcement that the future of Tomb Raider is set to be unveiled at The Game Awards tonight, but if you just can’t wait, there are leaks. Because there are always leaks.
Tomb Raider Is Going Back To Its Roots
All the way back to the beginning
According to the leaks, the new game is called Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis. It will, apparently, serve as a retelling of the very first 1996 game, while incorporating elements of the version of the character we met in the rebooted trilogy. Other reports have suggested Legacy Of Atlantis isn’t the only Tomb Raider project to be announced at The Game Awards, but we’ll have to wait and see.
The leaked cover pose shows Lara in exactly the same position as the official teaser posted by The Game Awards, which has led many to assume these leaks are the real deal.
Meanwhile, the screenshots show a Lara who more closely resembles her rebooted counterpart, though there are definitely elements of classic Tomb Raider design in there. Beyond that, we can see some pretty lush jungle environments, ancient ruins, and lots of displays of acrobatic skill. Classic Tomb Raider, basically.
We’ll Have To Tune Into The Game Awards
Not long to go now
If you want to find out for sure whether these leaks are legit (I’m willing to bet yes), then you’ll have to tune into The Game Awards tonight. 2025’s Game Awards will begin on December 11, 2025, at 4:30 PM Pacific Time/7:30 PM Eastern. Most viewers will choose to watch The Game Awards via the ceremony’s official YouTube or Twitch channels.
Beyond the return of Tomb Raider, we’ll also be getting a new look at PlayStation-exclusive Saros, and we’ll finally find out for sure what exactly that big mysterious statue has been teasing. It’s definitely a new Divinity game from Larian, but let’s all try and act surprised when it’s revealed, shall we?
