The Righteous Gemstones
Logline: “Follows a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work.”
The Righteous Gemstones is and always will be one of the best comedy series to stream on HBO Max (until it arrives on Netflix, that is). The acclaimed comedy series just wrapped up its fourth and final season in May 2025, ending the beloved series from creator and star Danny McBride on a high note.
The Righteous Gemstones – which earned a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score – consists of 36 episodes, some of which are arguably the most hilarious out of any HBO original comedy series. Featuring an outstanding ensemble led by John Goodman, Adam Devine, Walton Goggins, and more, The Righteous Gemstones is essential viewing for all comedy fans.
The Gilded Age
Logline: “The conflicts surrounding the new money Russell family and their old money neighbors, the van Rhijn family, in 1880s New York City high society.”
Another hit HBO series earlier this year was The Gilded Age, a costume drama starring Carrie Coon. Consisting of three seasons, with a fourth on the way, the entire show, as it currently exists, offers 25 binge-worthy episodes.
The Gilded Age premiered in 2022 and has earned several accolades in its first 3 seasons, including an Emmy for production design. It also earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 89%, making it one of the most critic-approved period pieces streaming on HBO Max right now – perfect for fans of The Seduction.
Industry
Logline: “Young bankers and traders make their way in the financial world in the aftermath of the 2008 collapse.”
One of the most hotly anticipated new shows on HBO Max in January 2026 is Industry season 4, making now the perfect time to dive into the celebrated workplace drama series. Often compared to HBO’s masterful corporate drama Succession, this series has been called one of the most addictive series on the platform.
Industry is also widely acclaimed, earning a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, and consists of 24 binge-worthy episodes that hook viewers from start to finish. Diving into Industry now will allow viewers to catch up right in time for its January 11, 2026, season 4 premiere.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Logline: “Larry David stars as an over-the-top version of himself in this comedy series that shows how seemingly trivial details of day-to-day life can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.”
The masterful comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm is always a safe bet for a feel-good, low-stakes binge on HBO Max. Consisting of 120 episodes across 12 hilarious seasons, Curb Your Enthusiasm is easily one of the best comedy shows ever made, not just on HBO.
Starring Seinfeld creator Larry David, who some may call a national treasure despite his laugh-out-loud cynical point of view, Curb Your Enthusiasm first premiered way back in 2000, making it one of HBO’s longest-running series of all time before it concluded in 2024. Larry David has another exciting project on the way, but until then, his Emmy-winning hit comedy continues to entertain the masses.
The Pitt
Logline: “The daily lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients, revealing the resilience required in their noble calling.”
Few medical shows, or 2025 new releases, have had such an immediate impact among fans and critics as The Pitt. The 15-part first season of the Emmy-winning series is not always a comfortable watch, given the show’s setting in a Pittsburgh emergency room. That said, modern TV does not get much better than this heartfelt and heartbreaking series.
Starring ER veteran Noah Lyle, who leads an Emmy-winning cast that includes Katherine LaNasa and Shawn Hatosy, The Pitt already ranks as the #41 TV show on IMDb. With season 2 set to premiere on January 8, 2026, there’s no better time to binge-watch The Pitt on HBO Max than right now.
