Vishal Bhardwaj’s film O’Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, released its teaser on January 10, 2026. The preview of this intense story, presented in Vishal Bhardwaj’s distinctive style, received praise from both fans and netizens.

Recent reports indicate that this film is, in fact, a creative revival and reimagining of the long-shelved Sapna Didi biopic. The film will have a theatrical release on February 13, 2026, and marks the fourth collaboration between Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid, after their previous work in Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon.

According to a report from OTT Play, the Sapna Didi project has undergone substantial changes since its announcement in 2017. Originally known as Sapna Didi and eventually Femme Fatale, the film was slated to star Deepika Padukone in the role of underworld queen Rahima Khan, with late Irrfan Khan playing the gangster Hussain Ustara.

Production was indefinitely stopped in 2018 due to Irrfan’s health diagnosis and his eventual passing in 2020. It has been reported that Vishal ultimately revisited the script, altering the perspective from the female protagonist to that of the hitman. The film, now known as O’Romeo, is a gritty, Shakespearean-influenced crime drama based on the Mumbai underworld of the 1980s. Shahid Kapoor plays Haseen Ustara, a character whose inspiration is drawn from the actual gangster Hussain Ustara. Meanwhile, Triptii Dimri plays Afsha, a character whose inspiration is drawn from Rahima Khan, widely known as Sapna Didi.

The story revolves around Sapna Didi’s pursuit of revenge against the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, played by Nana Patekar, after the tragic death of her husband, which was orchestrated by him. She joins hands with the ruthless Hussain Ustara, played by Shahid, who trains her in combat and the strategies of the underworld. The film also stars Avinash Tiwary, Gourav Sharma, Randeep Hooda, Shakti Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, and Farida Jalal in key roles.
