Vocalist Lukas Magyar has confirmed his exit from progressive metalcore act Veil of Maya.
The group has been on hiatus since September 2024, following the band’s co-headlining billing on the 2024 Summer Slaughter Tour. At the time, guitarist Marc Okubo took on the role of touring guitarist for alt-metal act Falling in Reverse, leaving Veil of Maya’s immediate future uncertain (though the band had vowed to return at some point).
In the meantime, Magyar shifted gears to focus on his solo project, SIFYN, and changed his Instagram bio to remove any references to being the singer of Veil of Maya. When asked recently by an Instagram follower if fans would see him fronting Veil of Maya again in the future, Magyar confirmed his departure: “if you do, it won’t be with me. I decided to part ways and focus on SIFYN.”
“VOM no more?” read another comment, to which Magyar replied: “I had to step away and focus on other things.”
Magyar later released an official statement announcing his departure. It reads as follows:
“Yes, it is true that I have left Veil of Maya. First thing’s first, what an incredible decade long journey it has been. I am forever grateful for the opportunity and experience. In many ways, the last ten years have reshaped my life. There were several factors that led to me ultimately stepping away from VoM, and I had to make a decision that would allow me to move forward, both personally and creatively.
Over the last year, I’ve been focused on SIFYN, releasing music and rediscovering that spark in the studio. It’s been a real turning point for me, allowing me to reconnect with what drives me creatively and to approach music with a fresh perspective. Working on SIFYN has truly brought back a sense of excitement that I’d been missing.
I’m also thrilled to be a part of a new collaboration with Joey Sturgis that’s coming soon. It’s been an honor to work alongside industry veterans who helped shape so many influential artists within the Metal and Rock world. There’s a lot more on the way for 2026 that I’m excited to share with all of you.
I have nothing but love and respect for everyone who I’ve met and worked with along the way. I want to say thank you to the fans for their continued support, and to Veil of Maya and Sumerian Records for everything over the years.

Magyar joined the long-running Chicago band in 2014, performing on their past three studio albums: Matriarch (2015), False Idol (2017), and [M]other (2023). Under his SIFYN moniker, the singer has released the 2022 full-length Marionette, as well as the 2024 one-off single “The Best Things.”
Meanwhile, there’s been no update from the Veil of Maya camp since a January 2025 post from Okubo that read: “When veil comes back it will be the heavy version” (as reported by The PRP). In retrospect, Okubo’s comment might have alluded to Magyar’s impending exit, with Okubo referencing VOM’s pre-Magyar, early years when they primarily played deathcore.
