The most familiar beat in a love story is also its most anticipated: the moment of confession. Flowers, rain, swelling music, and a long-awaited “I love you.” But the newly released trailer of With Love chooses a gentler rebellion. Instead of rushing toward that climax, it steps sideways, asking a softer, more intriguing question: what if love begins with the courage to tell someone else first?

Unveiled on Friday, the trailer for the Abishan Jeevinth and Anaswara Rajan starrer introduces a premise that feels deceptively simple yet emotionally layered. Two school classmates grow up carrying feelings that remain unsaid. When life finally brings them together, they make an unexpected pact. They will each confess their buried love to the people they once longed for. Only then will they allow themselves to face what they truly feel now.

It is a twist that reframes the entire idea of romance. This is not about chasing closure, but about earning it.

A promise rooted in the past

The trailer opens in the corridors of a school where young hearts quietly form attachments they do not know how to name. Anaswara’s character is shown nursing a crush on Abishan, while he is drawn to someone else. The film does not reveal who her earlier crush was, except that it was not him. That absence becomes a presence, a mystery that lingers through the rest of the footage.

As the characters grow older, the narrative skips over the obvious. We are not shown how they fall in love with each other. Instead, we meet them when they are already connected, already bound by something unspoken. The emotional weight lies in what has been left unresolved.

Their decision to confess to their past crushes before acknowledging their present feelings feels radical in its sincerity. It suggests that love is not only about finding the right person, but also about making peace with the people who shaped us along the way. The trailer hints at parallel journeys, quiet confrontations, and moments of vulnerability that test whether this promise will bring them closer or pull them apart.

There is an aching softness in the way the film treats time. The past is not a chapter to be closed, but a thread that continues to weave itself into the present.

A debut that finds beauty in restraint

With Love marks the directorial debut of Madhan, who also serves as the film’s writer. His background as an assistant director on Abishan’s debut Tourist Family seems to have influenced the grounded emotional texture of this new project. Where many romantic dramas rely on spectacle, Madhan’s approach appears rooted in observation, letting silences speak as loudly as words.

Producer Soundaryaa Rajinikanth backs the film under the Zion Films banner, alongside Magesh Raj Pasilian for MRP Entertainment. The collaboration brings together a creative team that understands the power of understated storytelling. Sean Roldan’s music, heard briefly in the trailer, carries a melancholic warmth that mirrors the film’s emotional undercurrents. Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography frames the story in soft light and lingering close-ups, while Sureshkumar K’s editing suggests a rhythm that flows between memory and the present.

Anaswara Rajan continues her run of emotionally resonant roles, bringing a quiet strength to a character defined by longing and patience. Abishan Jeevinth, too, appears to lean into a vulnerability that feels refreshingly unguarded. Together, they create a dynamic that is less about fiery passion and more about shared history.

Set for a theatrical release on February 6, With Love positions itself as a romance for those who believe that the heart does not always move in straight lines. Sometimes, it circles back, seeking answers it once ignored.

In choosing to subvert the traditional proposal, the film reminds us that love stories do not always end with a confession. Sometimes, they begin with one.
