Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Fallout Season 2, Episode 6.
Fallout season 2, episode 6 finally ties together one of the biggest mysteries of the series so far with a special guest starring as an important new character. Fallout season 2 is expanding the Wasteland with a variety of new creatures from Radscorpians to Deathclaws, and now the Super Mutants are joining the fray.
While many of these creatures have shown up in passing, the latest new arrival appears to be a much more significant character, and judging by the casting of a prominent Hollywood actor to play the part, it makes sense that the story will only be expanded in the coming episodes and into the next season of the show.
Ron Perlman Plays The Super Mutant Who Saves The Ghoul In Fallout Season 2, Episode 6
At the end of episode 5, Lucy is betrayed by The Ghoul, which leads to her punching him out of a window with a powered-up glove, where he is promptly impaled by a large and thoroughly rusty pole. In episode 6, The Ghoul does his best to pick himself up and get back on his feet, but the injury is agonizing, and the distance proves too much, leaving him stranded and alone.
Lucky for him, a mysterious hulking figure arrives, snapping the pole just a few feet above his worn body, and lifts him off before dragging him back to his lair. Once there, this monster begins to preach to The Ghoul about their shared enemy and his desire to work together in order to fight and get retribution.
And while the CGI green face may not be a perfect match, the credits do in fact confirm that this Super Mutant is the one and only Ron Perlman. Famous for playing iconic monsters such as Hellboy, Perlman is the perfect casting to bring the Super Mutants to life in Fallout.
What The Super Mutant Wants From The Ghoul?
Intriguingly, the introduction of the Super Mutants expands on the ideas already set in motion earlier in the season with the Forced Evolutionary Virus documents that Norm MacLean found, and even the Deathclaws, which are another species created as a result of the FEV. And Perlman’s character confirms that these creatures were, in fact, created by the Enclave as far as the show is concerned.
Perlman suggests that a war is coming, and he attempts to recruit The Ghoul to their side, but when The Ghoul rejects the invitation, he is swiftly removed from this base, with the Super Mutant saying that if he won’t “join” their kind, he can’t know where they live.
Clearly, the Super Mutants are preparing to be a major faction in the Wasteland, and their story is about to blow up as an all-out war begins. However, the real war might not take place until after the Fallout season 2 finale, considering there are only two episodes left before the season ends.
