A movie focused on a unique Marvel character was a box office bomb, but found new life on streaming, with it now set to leave Netflix soon. The MCU’s many movies have been the focus when it comes to Marvel in live-action. However, the franchise does not make up the only shared universe based on Marvel characters, though it is the successful one.

The other live-action Marvel universe is Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Sadly, the franchise never managed to take off the way the studio hoped after 2018’s Venom was a hit. Now, the SSU movie franchise has come to an end, with no upcoming Marvel movies scheduled for Spider-Man-adjacent characters. Still, a Sony Marvel bomb became a streaming hit, but it is leaving Netflix.

This Marvel Box Office Flop Became A Major Streaming Hit

Aside from the Venom franchise, all SSU movies struggled at the box office. One of those films was Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson. The movie, which focused on Marvel’s clairvoyant hero, Cassandra Webb, ended its theatrical run with only $100.5 million. Based on its reported budget of $80 million, Madame Web needed to make $160 million to $200 million to break even.

As such, Madame Web turned into a box office bomb that seemingly lost Sony up to $100 million. While its theatrical performance was negative, the SSU movie managed to turn things around on streaming in a big way. According to a report from Bloomberg, Madame Web was Sony’s most-watched movie on Netflix in 2024. Now, its time on the streamer is ending.

Madame Web Is Leaving Netflix Soon & Here Is Where It Will Land

With Madame Web achieving the status of a global streaming hit, anyone wanting to check out the movie before it leaves Netflix will have to do so quickly. That is because today, November 13, is the last day that Madame Web is available on Netflix. After a solid year on the streaming service, the Sony Marvel movie is jumping streamers.

Madame Web will now find itself where most Marvel movies are, joining the streaming home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All that to say that Madame Web will start streaming on Disney+ on November 14. The SSU box office bomb will not be the only Marvel arrival on Disney+ tomorrow, as it will be joined by a new Marvel event series.

LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, a two-part animated TV special, will also be released on Disney+ on November 14. As such, Marvel fans will get two very different options to delve into the comic book franchise. If one wants laughs and popular Marvel characters, then LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails it is, while Madame Web offers a darker type of Marvel story.
