Donald Trump has evidently never been told to keep his gob firmly shut if he’s got nothing nice to say. Fortunately, there’s Josh Gad to teach ’em a lesson.
Earlier today, Trump took to his Truth Social account to respond to the tragic death of Rob Reiner. In his standard approach to all things social media (i.e., poor punctuation, absurd vanity, and outright delusion), Trump said Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, were killed “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
Trump then went on to say that Reiner “was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.”

And despite immediate calls to remove the post, including from those within the Republican party, Trump actually doubled down at a White House briefing later that day.
“I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way shape or form,” Trump said. “I thought he was very bad for our country.”
Cue Gad, who came out swinging via a post on Threads. While others did an admirable enough job of rebutting Trump’s remarks, you’ve really got to give it to the actor for his candid response to Trump’s clearly diluted ranting:
“There is no low that is too low for this f**king psychopath,” Gad wrote. “Rob Reiner was 1000 times the man you are, and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people. Go paint your hand on your gold fucking toilet and destroy things like the White House. That’s what you do best.”
It helps, of course, that Gad’s own Instagram tribute to Reiner (from the evening of Sunday, December 14th) was especially personal and thoughtful. (The pair collaborated on a 2024 send-up of The Princess Bride used to promote Gad’s comic book, The Writer.)
“He was one of the greatest directors of our time,” Gad wrote. “He was a friend. He was simply a beautiful person. Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much for those who had no voices. This loss is devastating. I cannot express how much this hurts. Love you Rob and Michelle. Thank you for all you gave us.”
As mentioned, Gad wasn’t the only star to swing back at Trump. Also on Monday, Jack White hopped on Instagram to call Trump a “disgusting, vile, egomaniac loser, child.”
Luckily, the tributes to Reiner far outweigh Trump’s buffoonish outburst. If we could once more offer up our own such homages, we’ve assembled a list of Reiner’s 10 best movies as well as a touching essay titled “Rob Reiner Was the American Everyman.”
