One Piece Will End After Its Next Arc, Marking the Manga’s Final Stretch

Some journeys feel grander than life itself, and One Piece is no exception. While all great things must come to an end, it’s still a sad thought to think of a manga world with no new chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s modern odyssey. As teased by the creator himself, the Straw Hats have little left to explore after Elbaph.

Obtained from Oda’s letter to Jump Festa 2026 attendees and posted to Oda’s One Piece staff account on X, the manga is soon approaching Laugh Tale. There surely isn’t much left for the series to explore beyond Elbaph, but now’s the time for fans to get their answers. In 2026, it appears to maybe, possibly, be the end of One Piece.

One Piece Creator Teases the Endgame Beyond Elbaph

Just What Did Roger See at Laugh Tale?

In Oda’s letter, a hilarious insight into his flowy stream of consciousness, he teases One Piece’s future with the Elbaph Arc poised to end “with a bang”. However, he also indicates that the next territories will indeed form the endgame of One Piece’s plot.

While it’s doubtful that 2026 will be the last year of the manga, especially with Lodestar Island being the last stop of the Grand Line before Laugh Tale, it prompts plenty of questions. Where is the last Road Poneglyph? What did Joyboy leave behind that made Roger and his crew laugh until they cried, dubbing the island Laugh Tale?

Monkey D. Luffy looking very tired in One Piece anime

As the Elbaph Arc showed, One Piece’s dense lore is far too massive to even be contained in its bespoke Harley texts. There are still matters to be settled with Blackbeard and his crew, Luffy’s reunion with Shanks, and what will or even can be done about the World Government’s hideous oppressive rule.

Laugh Tale exists beyond the reaches of Log Pose navigation in One Piece. With each of the four Road Poneglyphs clearly constituting an “x marks the spot” moment in the future, it’ll be the culmination of Luffy’s journey. But with the manga’s pacing, it’s likely to take its time before fans reach that glorious final destination.
