The viral Jon Hamm dancing meme is everywhere on the internet, but it surprisingly originated from a lesser-known Apple TV series.

Jon Hamm is best known for his roles in shows like Mad Men, Landman, and Fargo. Some might even recognize him for his parts in movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Baby Driver, and Tag. Owing to this, it might be hard not to assume that his viral dancing meme is from one of these shows or movies.

Interestingly, though, the meme actually comes from one of his most under-the-radar shows from recent times, which has also been renewed for season 2.

The Jon Hamm Dancing Meme Is From Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors (& It’s Darker Than You Realize)

The Jon Hamm dancing meme is from Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors, which premiered on April 11, 2025. Although the show does not seem to be among Apple TV’s top original TV series, it has already been renewed for season 2 and is scheduled to return on April 3, 2026. The Jon Hamm meme comes from a scene in the second half of the show’s season 1, episode 8.

As a meme, it just seems like a harmless bit of internet absurdity, portraying Jon Hamm cutting loose in a goofy moment. However, in the show, it captures a man’s desperate attempt to find joy when everything around him is crumbling.

Your Friends & Neighbors is about a man, Andrew Cooper, who starts stealing from rich neighbors after losing his well-paying job. He initially gets away with his stealing endeavors, but his criminal actions soon spiral and land him in serious trouble. In the scene from the meme, he finds a few moments of escapism at a club, but things soon go downhill before he can restore the lost normalcy in his life.

Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors Is The Perfect Show For Breaking Bad & Ozark Fans

Your Friends and Neighbors is similar to Breaking Bad and Ozark in the sense that it walks through the story of a man who turns to crime to keep himself and his family afloat. Similar to Walter White and Marty Byrde, Jon Hamm’s Andrew Cooper also convinces himself that he is in control and acting rationally. However, things get out of hand quickly before he can walk away from the criminal world.

At the same time, though, Your Friends and Neighbors is also unique because, instead of merely focusing on a man’s moral downfall, it criticizes capitalism and the delusions of the rich.

The Jon Hamm show on Apple TV unfolds more as a dark comedy about how privilege, entitlement, and quiet desperation infect an entire social class rather than just its central antihero.
