The Twilight Saga took the world by storm, and the movie adaptation starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson had many memorable scenes still referenced today, and that includes the baseball scene featuring the Cullens as they attempt a totally mundane activity during a thunderstorm.
During the ScreenRant-hosted Q&A for Twilight, moderated by Joe Deckelmeier at Motor City Comic Con, Peter Facinelli, known for his role as Carlisle Cullen, Ashley Greene, known for her role as Alice Cullen, and Jackson Rathbone, known for his role as Jasper Cullen, spoke about the iconic scene, and not everyone has fond memories of filming the baseball game:
Ashley Greene: That baseball scene, we all hated filming it. We love how it turned out. I think it’s all of our, or at least my, favorite scene, but it was freezing. It was one of the first things we all shot together. There were no warming tents, which would warm you up as you’re shooting. It was raining cold, and our faces were melting off.
Peter Facinelli: It was the first day of filming. We shot that for, like, two days, or three, and it was raining, and our makeup was running. We went home like almost every night, going, “There’s no way anybody’s gonna see this movie. It’s terrible. We all look terrible.” And then we were wrong.
Ashley Greene: I lied about being able to play baseball, as we do as actors, to get a job. I’d never played baseball in my life. They were like, “Can you play baseball?” And I was like, “Totally!” And then I got the job, and they were like, “You totally cannot play baseball.”
The Twilight Saga movies are adapted from Stephanie Meyer’s book series and took the world by storm. The iconic baseball scene had to take place during a thunderstorm as it could drown out the sounds of vampires hitting a baseball. It was shown during the first Twilight movie released in 2008, and despite the never-ending criticism of the franchise, the franchise grossed over $3.36 billion worldwide across the five movies.
Greene’s experience filming the iconic moment was clearly different than those of her co-stars as she reflects on the moment fondly. Despite being underqualified, her monumental pitching moment during the scene has been praised globally.
The YA adaptation launched the careers of Pattinson and Stewart, as they are now working on major Hollywood movies. Stewart herself has recently directed a movie, The Chronology of Water, which has received rave reviews.
The Twilight Saga was and remains a cultural staple for many, and its constant criticism is met with equal amounts of love and respect, as well as a great deal of guilty pleasure among millions around the world.
