After earning critical acclaim during its theatrical run, the courtroom drama Haq has officially made its digital release. Starting today, January 2, 2026, the film is available for streaming on Netflix, bringing a powerful story of legal resilience and personal dignity to a global audience.

Directed by Suparn S. Varma, the film is inspired by the landmark 1985 Supreme Court judgment in the Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum case which was a huge moment in Indian legal history that redefined maintenance rights for women. Haq stars Yami Gautam as Shazia Bano, a woman who finds herself at a crossroads after her husband, a successful advocate named Abbas Khan (played by Emraan Hashmi), abruptly ends their marriage through triple talaq.

Unlike traditional, loud legal thrillers, Haq has been praised for its sensitivity and restraint. The story follows Shazia’s journey from a housewife to a symbol of courage as she tackles the complexities of the legal system to secure her rights and the future of her children. The film also explores themes of gender equality, constitutional law, and moral conviction without losing its emotional core.

Produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the project boasts a stellar supporting cast including Sheeba Chaddha, Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, and Anang Desai.

The film originally hit theatres on November 7, 2025, and while it maintained a steady presence at the box office, it truly stood out for its nuanced storytelling and layered performances. Critics have particularly noted the chemistry and conflict between Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, whose performances offer a balanced look at faith and justice.

As Haq begins its second wind on OTT, it acts as a true reflection on the power of an individual to challenge societal norms. For those who missed the cinematic experience, the film is now just a click away on Netflix.
