The hit medical drama, The Pitt, has been renewed for a third season.

HBO Max renewed The Pitt for a third season ahead of season 2, which has not aired yet. The announcement was made during a premiere event for the series in Los Angeles. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt is set in a Pittsburgh hospital and follows the personal and professional lives of its medical staff.

Noah Wyle leads the cast as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The show also stars Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi.

In December 2025, Rusty Schwimmer, Jayne Taini, and Annabelle Toomey were confirmed as recurring stars for The Pitt season 2. The upcoming installment’s other regulars include Lawrence Robinson, Brittany Allen, Bonita Friedericy, Taylor Handley, Jeff Kober, Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Laëtitia Hollard, Lucas Iverson and Zack Morris. Season 2 will also feature some new faces as Meta Golding, Luke Tennie, Christopher Thornton and Travis Van Winkle join the cast.

While The Pitt season 2 will see the return of several actors, one familiar face will not be coming back. Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Heather Collins, will not reprise her role.

The series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Gemmill serves as an executive producer alongside Noah Wyle, John Wells, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.

The Pitt season 2 takes place around 10 months after the events of the season 1 finale. According to the creator, the storyline will unfold over the weekend of the Fourth of July. He teased that the audience would get to experience a very long shift and see a variety of interesting ER patients.

Gemmill added that audiences will get to witness Wyle’s character beginning to confront his mental health struggles. These problems escalated during The Pitt season 1 when Robby was having a hard time processing the death of his mentor.

In addition to the surprise renewal, The Pitt also took home three Critics’ Choice Awards. The show won Best Drama Series, Wyle received Best Actor in a Drama Series, and LaNasa won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The Pitt season 2 will premiere on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 9 PM ET and 6:00 PM PT on HBO Max.
