A Tomb Raider set image reveals that a former Lara Croft actor has been secretly cast in the upcoming Prime Video series starring Sophie Turner.
On January 15, Prime Video released a first-look image of Turner as Lara Croft, the archaeologist and adventurer from the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise. This was used to announce that production was officially underway for the new series. In addition to Turner, Tomb Raider‘s cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. Phoebe Waller-Bridge created the series and is the co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge, while Jonathan Van Tulleken serves as the director.
Now, an image from The Sun shows Keeley Hawes on the set as production continues. She previously voiced Lara Croft in the video games Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and Netflix’s mobile game Tomb Raider Reloaded.

Hawes has not been officially confirmed to be in the Prime Video series yet, but an observer shared with The Sun that “With her raincoat and M&S shopping bag, she appears to be playing a more motherly character in the series. Some were speculating that Keeley could be the mother of Lara Croft — Lady Amelia Croft, the Countess of Abbingdon. She certainly has a history of playing upper-class ladies in dramas including Summer Of Rockets and Upstairs Downstairs.”
Along with voicing Lara Croft in numerous Tomb Raider games, Hawes has starred in Doctor Who, Orphan Black: Echoes, a television adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend, the critically acclaimed police procedural Line of Duty, and a miniseries adaptation of the J.K. Rowling novel The Casual Vacancy. She has also been an executive producer for The Durrells, Honour, Finding Alice, Crossfire, Miss Austen, and The Assassin.
There is not a confirmed release yet for Tomb Raider, but with filming having started in January, it likely will not premiere on Prime Video until 2027. As the wait continues, fans can continue to speculate if Hawes is playing Lady Amelia Croft or a different character entirely, at least until her casting is officially announced. While the series is meant to be a new take on the franchise, featuring an actor who has played Lara Croft multiple times before is a way to connect to the existing stories.
