Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda may have become overnight stars, but the actors say the massive success of Saiyaara was never something they anticipated. The romantic musical drama went on to gross a staggering ₹570.33 crore worldwide, turning into a full-blown phenomenon. Yet, according to Ahaan, the journey began with grounded expectations and no pressure to chase numbers.
In a recent interview with Grazia, Ahaan opened up about his mindset during the making of his debut film. He revealed that both he and Aneet were realistic about the challenges of launching a movie led entirely by newcomers. “Aneet and I even discussed this on set, that even if only two people walked out of the theatre feeling something, we’d done our job,” he shared. “We knew that we couldn’t expect audiences to flock in to watch two newcomers on screen.”
That honesty, Ahaan said, defined their working relationship. Rather than stressing about box office performance, the duo focused on sincerity and emotional connection. Ironically, that very approach struck a chord with audiences, who embraced their chemistry and the film’s soulful storytelling.
Despite the overwhelming response, Ahaan admitted he hasn’t fully processed the fame that followed. “I think it’s better to not know,” he said, adding that he prefers to stay focused on what lies ahead. “I just want to move on to the next one.”
Saiyaara marked Ahaan Panday’s Bollywood debut, while Aneet Padda, previously seen in Salaam Venky, stepped into her first leading role. Their convincing on-screen bond also sparked dating rumours, though both actors have consistently maintained that they share a close friendship and nothing more.
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara follows the story of Krish, a struggling musician, and Vaani Batra, a budding journalist and poet. The film explores love, ambition, and resilience through music and emotion. Made on an estimated budget of ₹50 crore, it went on to become the highest-grossing romantic drama in Bollywood history.
