Guy Ritchie’s action movie, which many want to be the start of a franchise, will be streaming for free soon.
When one thinks of action movie franchises, a few classics come to mind. After all, icons like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, and more have all made great contributions to the genre. Among its very best are franchises like Rambo, Taken, Bourne, Mission: Impossible, Die Hard, James Bond, Terminator, and many more. In recent years, franchises like John Wick, Extraction, and Nobody have brought a fresh set of stars, concepts, and impressive set pieces to the genre. A 2021 movie directed by Ritchie has all the makings to start a franchise, and it will become widely available.
Tubi has announced that Ritchie’s Wrath of Man will start streaming for free on the streaming service on May 1. A huge set of movies is also coming to the streamer at the start of next month, including multiple franchises. Movies from franchises like Jack Reacher and James Bond will also be released on Tubi on the same day that Wrath of Man drops. Outside the action genre, viewers will also be able to watch releases from varied franchises like comedy Legally Blonde, sports drama Creed, sci-fi Star Trek and The Hunger Games, and more.
Wrath of Man was released in theaters on May 7, 2021. The action movie went on to gross roughly $104 million worldwide. Based on a reported budget of $40 million, the movie needed to finish its box office run in the $80 million to $100 million range to break even. It managed to do so, grossing a little over 2.5x its production budget. Directed by Ritchie, it marked yet another collaboration between him and action star Jason Statham. Before the film, the duo worked together on 1998’s Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, 2000’s Snatch, and 2005’s Revolver.
As such, Wrath of Man marked their fourth collaboration, with the pair having already worked together since the action movie was released, as Ritchie directed 2023’s Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, which not only featured Statham but also brought back his Wrath of Man co-star Josh Hartnett. They are set to team up once again for the upcoming action thriller Viva La Madness, which started production in February and, according to a report from Deadline, added stars like Vinnie Jones (The Gentlemen), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), and more to its cast.
Wrath of Man follows Statham’s Patrick “H” Hill, a new cash-truck driver at Fortico, whose mysterious past slowly comes to life after a robbery. The action movie presents a unique twist through its storytelling format, as Wrath of Man is divided into four acts: A Dark Spirit; Scorched Earth; Bad Animals, Bad; and Liver, Lungs, Spleen & Heart. This allows the film to dive deep into Statham’s character and his motivations. Wrath of Man holds a near-perfect 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, positioning the Ritchie and Statham collaboration to become a streaming hit for free on Tubi starting May 1.
