Well, we all suspected this day would come. Nintendo has officially confirmed it will be raising the price of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, starting September 1. In other words, if you’ve been thinking about picking up a Switch 2 for yourself, you might want to do so before the end of Summer.

“In light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook, Nintendo will revise the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) of the Nintendo Switch 2 system and Nintendo Switch systems,” the company explained. “We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding.”

    The Nintendo Switch 2

From September 1, the Nintendo Switch 2 price changes are as follows:

    • US – $499.99 ($50 increase)
    • Canada – $679.99 ($50 increase)
    • Europe – €499.99 (€30 increase)

This price increase comes just months after PlayStation jacked up the prices of various PlayStation hardware. PlayStation cited “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.”

The revised PlayStation pricing can be seen below:

    U.S.

    • PS5 – $649.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99
    • PS5 Pro – $899.99

    U.K.

    • PS5 – £569.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – £519.99
    • PS5 Pro – £789.99

    Europe

    • PS5 – €649.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – €599.99
    • PS5 Pro – €899.99

These price increases should come as little surprise, of course. Hardware appears to be getting more expensive as a direct result of AI data centers. Specifically, the increased usage of AI around the world has caused the price of RAM to drastically increase. So if you can’t afford a PlayStation 5 in time for GTA 6, have a word with the friend who keeps sending you fake videos of cats doing karate.

For now, you still have a few months to grab a Nintendo Switch 2 at the regular price. With persistent rumors that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming before the end of the year, you might just want to secure one. Or not. It’s very much up to you, really.
