When it comes to highly anticipated game releases, you have your obvious choices, such as Grand Theft Auto VI, The Elder Scrolls 6, and Fallout 5, to name but a few, but there is no denying that Marvel’s Wolverine is also a release that we all want to get our hands on, especially as it has been almost five years since it was first announced.

Developed by Insomniac Games and based on the Marvel Comics’ character we all know and love, Marvel’s Wolverine will serve as a standalone entry in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, and it is set to launch on 15 September for the PlayStation 5.

All good, right? Well no, as a recent announcement has revealed that the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine will be unplayable for millions at launch and, as you can imagine, those affected are less than pleased.

This news comes after it was finally revealed that Sony would no longer be releasing PC ports alongside its PlayStation 5 releases. As such, Sony’s single-player games will become 100% exclusive to PlayStation consoles once more. The announcement was made by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who got his information from an internal town hall led by PS Studios chief Hermen Hulst. At the start of the year, Schreier did hint that Sony would be making this decision some time in 2026, and it seems as though that time has finally come.

“SCOOP: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company’s narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg’s reporting from earlier this year,” the post over on BlueSky read.

So what does this mean for gamers? Well, put simply, any upcoming single-player game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment will only be accessible via PlayStation, including Marvel’s Wolverine. However, upcoming live-service games and certain second-party titles will most likely still release on multiple platforms.

Reports suggest that PC ports of titles such as Ghost of Yotëi were scrapped due to this new initiative, and highly anticipated titles such as Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will now be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. As such, millions of users will be missing out on some of the biggest single-player titles that Sony has on its docket.

However, due to the rising costs of hardware, it seems as though Sony has made this decision mainly to save some money, but it remains to be seen how cutting off a large portion of its player base will affect sales in the future. After all, releasing a game on more than one platform is always going to boost its popularity, not to mention its sales.

So, it seems if you are looking forward to Marvel’s Wolverine this September, you will have to make sure that you have a PlayStation 5 console, otherwise you are set to miss out on one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
