With webtoons like Solo Leveling and Viral Hit commanding the spotlight these days thanks to their stellar anime adaptations, it’s often easy to forget about older series with not-so-perfect adaptations like The God of High School. It’s been six years since MAPPA’s adaptation of The God of High School aired in the Summer of 2020, bringing one of Webtoon‘s most popular action fantasy series to the big screen.
With MAPPA behind the animation, The God of High School was certainly a visual spectacle, but its rushed pacing left much to be desired. However, the poor adaptation does not in the slightest take away from how great of a series the original webtoon is. With well over 500 chapters, The God of High School’s webtoon remains a must-read even over a decade later, and its creator has just returned with a new series.
The God of High School’s Creator Returns With A New Martial Arts Webtoon
Nearly four whole years after wrapping up The God of High School, its creator, Park Yongje, has returned as the artist of an all-new webtoon named MuMuMu. Released on Naver Webtoon on May 15, 2026, MuMuMu is written by Peup2, with Park Yongje handling the art, and as you’d expect, the series is gorgeous. Albeit a long one, MuMuMu has only released one chapter so far, and though Webtoon has yet to announce an English release, the series is already one to keep an eye out for.

Dragon Ball’s studio is always hard at work, but this particular collaboration is a huge one to follow for fans of Korea’s manhwa scene.
For starters, MuMuMu puts a fun, much-needed modern twist on the Murim genre with its setting. Instead of a typical medieval setting, the mystical martial arts co-exist with contemporary high-rise cities in MuMuMu. The series takes off when Han Biyeong joins the mad demon extermination squad, which, as its name implies, is hunting down a legendary mad demon. While in pursuit of him, the subjugation squad comes across a curious herb gatherer named Soma, who instead turns out to be the disciple of the mad demon.
The disciple’s trail eventually leads the squad to the mad demon, and a battle breaks out, with the Murim alliance also joining in to help subdue the mad demon. During the battle, the disciple, Soma, experiences an awakening. Biyeong inadvertently breaks a seal placed on Soma, who had stolen all of the mad demon’s power as only an infant ten years ago. As it turns out, Soma is the reincarnated demon king who had planned to lure the squad into breaking his seal all along. With his new unfettered power, Soma wipes out the Murim alliance and sets his sights on worldwide conquest, thus making his way to Seoul, where another hero is about to be born.
Webtoon’s Newest Murim Manhwa Is As Wild As They Come
That said, if MuMuMu’s setting, premise, and stunning art still aren’t enough to convince you, its pop culture references will surely do the job. While the high-octane combat is definitely present, the series well and truly reels its readers in with its sheer creativity, which begins to show itself halfway through the first chapter as the Murim alliance pulls up to the battle.
From Marvel and DC to Naruto, Sailor Moon, Slam Dunk, and Return of the Blossoming Blade, the sects that make up the Alliance are nearly all a nod to popular media. Unexpectedly, the series also manages to sneak in an Evangelion reference. The battle that ensues is as wacky as ever as magical girls, Hidden Leaf Village ninja, Homelander, and even tokusatsu superheroes all clash against the martial arts.
The references take readers by compete surprise but they do make sense given MuMuMu’s modern fusion setting. If anything, it makes for a very refreshing fight. It’s unclear if the rest of the series will be just as zany as this first chapter, but it’s worth checking up on when the next one drops. More importantly, if successful enough, perhaps MuMuMu could even pave the path for an anime in the future, hopefully giving Park Yongje’s beautiful art the adaptation it deserves this time around.
