Daveigh Chase, the former child actor best known for voicing Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and playing the terrifying Samara Morgan in The Ring, has passed away. She was 35.

John Ryan Jr, a representative of the actress, told Yahoo, “Daveigh was the sweetest woman on the planet, and this is a huge loss to all of us. Daveigh was one of my best friends for the last 17 years, and we’ve managed her for over a decade. We were in the middle of a documentary about her during this tragic passing.”

Born in Las Vegas in 1990, Chase began her career as a child actor and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most recognisable young talents. She rose to international fame in 2002 when she voiced the spirited Lilo Pelekai in Disney’s beloved animated film Lilo & Stitch, a performance that earned her an Annie Award. She later reprised the role in the franchise’s television series and sequels.

The same year, she delivered one of horror cinema’s most memorable performances as Samara Morgan in The Ring. Her chilling portrayal earned her the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.

Apart from Lilo & Stitch and The Ring, Chase was also known for voicing Chihiro in the English-language version of Studio Ghibli’s acclaimed film Spirited Away. Her other notable credits include Donnie Darko, S. Darko, Big Love, ER, Charmed and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
