Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None is receiving a striking new interpretation as an authorized manga, giving one of the mystery genre’s most iconic stories a new manga-style adaptation. VIZ Media will release the English edition of And Then There Were None, Vol. 1 on September 15, 2026, with Aya Nikaido serving as both adapter and illustrator.

The new manga from VIZ Media stays rooted in the novel’s famously sinister setup while allowing its characters and isolated setting to be experienced in an entirely different format, according to an exclsuive press release. Ten strangers arrive at Soldier Island after being invited by the mysterious U.N. Owen, but none understands the connection between them. Their uncertainty quickly turns to horror when accusations about their pasts emerge and the guests realize their host has something terrifying planned.

    A Three-Volume Manga Retells Christie’s Deadliest Mystery

The authorized manga will span three volumes, giving Nikaido room to translate Christie’s intricate mystery into a visual format without reducing its atmosphere of suspicion. The first English volume contains 232 pages and will be published through VIZ Signature in paperback and digital editions. Its listed retail price is $14.99 and will be available through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Bookshop.org, and Kinokuniya, giving Christie readers multiple options for picking up the first installment.

Nikaido is particularly well suited to tackle the project after previously illustrating Japanese editions of Christie’s novels and working on two Hercule Poirot short stories. Her connection to And Then There Were None also goes back years. She has explained that her father owned a copy of the novel, and after becoming interested in it, she famously read the entire book in a single sitting.

The adaptation originated through Hayakawa Publishing’s Hayakomi’s Edge project, a comic initiative launched in 2024 to transform Western novels into authorized manga. And Then There Were None was one of the early titles selected for the project, alongside Polish science-fiction classic Solaris by Stanisław Lem. The manga versions were first serialized online in Japan before receiving physical and digital releases.

Christie’s original premise is one of the strongest reasons the manga should appeal to both longtime readers and newcomers. Ten people are brought together on the isolated Soldier Island, where they discover that there is no obvious connection between them and that nobody knows the true identity of the person responsible for their invitations.

Their situation becomes increasingly dangerous after their hidden histories are exposed. One by one, the guests begin dying in circumstances that mirror the familiar counting-game structure associated with the story. With no easy route back to the mainland, suspicion inevitably turns inward as the survivors try to determine which person among them is responsible.

The English release date adds another intriguing detail to the adaptation’s arrival. And Then There Were None, Vol. 1 is scheduled for September 15, 2026, exactly 136 years after Agatha Christie’s birth on September 15, 1890. That makes the VIZ release more than a routine new adaptation and translation, giving the first volume a fitting anniversary connection to the writer behind the mystery.

Agatha Christie’s Murder Mysteries Officially Enter A New Era Next Month

Agatha Christie’s works officially enter a new era next month, as one of the author’s most exciting upcoming adaptations finally releases on BritBox.

Nikaido has also spoken about the pressure of adapting a story with such a devoted international readership. That concern is understandable given And Then There Were None’s status as one of Christie’s most recognizable works. Still, the manga format provides an opportunity to reinterpret the island, its increasingly desperate inhabitants, and the story’s oppressive mystery through expressive artwork while preserving the plot’s essential twists.

With its three-volume structure, authorized status, and September 15 English debut, And Then There Were None, Vol. 1 is one of the more new ways to experience Agatha Christie’s classic. For readers already familiar with every clue, Nikaido’s artwork offers a fresh perspective, while newcomers get an accessible entry point into one of mystery fiction’s most influential stories.
