One of Liam Neeson’s most underrated thrillers is coming to streaming next month.
Neeson has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable action stars, appearing in numerous thrillers throughout his career. Movies such as Taken, Non-Stop, and The Commuter have helped define his career. However, the actor has also starred in darker crime thrillers that focus more on mystery and suspense, such as A Walk Among the Tombstones.
Released in 2014, A Walk Among the Tombstones is a crime thriller written and directed by Scott Frank, who adapted the screenplay from Lawrence Block’s 1992 novel of the same name. The film stars Neeson alongside Dan Stevens, David Harbour, Boyd Holbrook, and Brian Bradley. Despite putting Neeson’s character, Matthew, in a dangerous investigation, the movie takes a different approach from some of his more action-heavy projects, as it follows a disturbing case.
A Walk Among the Tombstones is expected to be released on Tubi in November 2026, introducing the thriller to viewers who missed its original theatrical run. Tubi offers movies and TV shows without requiring a paid subscription, although its content includes advertisements. The movie will officially arrive on November 1, 2026.
Neeson’s character is a former NYPD detective who becomes an unlicensed private investigator. He is approached by Kenny Kristo (Stevens), a drug trafficker whose wife was kidnapped and murdered despite his attempts to secure her release. Kristo wants him to find the culprits, leading him down a dangerous path.
A Walk Among the Tombstones premiered in theaters on September 19, 2014. It grossed approximately $62.1 million worldwide on a reported $28 million production budget. Domestically, it earned around $26 million. The movie did not become one of Neeson’s biggest commercial successes and received mostly mixed reviews after its debut.
More than a decade after its debut, A Walk Among the Tombstones holds a 68% critics’ score and an audience score of 53%, receiving mixed responses. The thriller also stands apart from several of Neeson’s action roles because Matthew is not portrayed as an unstoppable hero. Instead, he is a former police officer struggling with his past, giving the actor’s fans something that they’re not quite used to.
For viewers familiar with Neeson’s work in Taken and similar projects, A Walk Among the Tombstones offers a different kind of role for the actor. It focuses mostly on detective work and unsettling crimes. It is also more psychological than his very commercially successful blockbuster hits.
