Aaron Paul’s New Blumhouse “Ghosthunters” Horror Officially Sets Release Date

Aaron Paul’s upcoming horror movie with Obsession director Curry Barker gets an exciting update from Blumhouse.

The Breaking Bad star is no stranger to the horror genre. He has appeared in many horror thrillers throughout his career, including 2009’s The Last House on the Left, which was a remake of Wes Craven’s R-rated classic movie. Paul also starred opposite Eiza González in 2025’s sci-fi horror film Ash, which saw the Emmy-winning actor playing an astronaut who rescues a space station worker after her crew was mysteriously slaughtered. Now, Paul is attached to star in a new major horror film for Blumhouse, titled Anything But Ghosts, which just received its official release date.

Anything But Ghosts has now been scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027. Focus Features will distribute the movie nationwide, while Universal Pictures International will handle its international distribution for the studio. The film’s 2027 release date will pit it directly against Kevin Bacon’s romance movie Beach Read at the box office. It will also be debuting in the same month as other high-profile features like Mel Gibson’s The Resurrection of Christ: Part One, James Wan’s new Paranormal Activity movie, and Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars: Starfighter.

Anything But Ghosts is directed by Barker, who co-wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. They will both lead the cast as wannabe “ghosthunters.” In the film, their characters will find themselves in over their heads as things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control. Joining them are Paul, Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, and Bryce Dallas Howard, whose characters are still under wraps.

Anything But Ghosts marks the second time that Barker and Tomlinson will star in a movie together, after 2024’s independent horror film Milk & Serial. They have been collaborating for eight years now, which started with the web series Roommates and their sketch comedy channel, That’s a Bad Idea. This year, the creative duo gained recognition after the massive success of the supernatural horror film Obsession, which Barker directed and Tomlinson starred in. They are also executive producing, along with Daniel Bekerman and Ben Ross. The producers are Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.

Before Anything But Ghosts, Blumhouse and Focus Features first collaborated with Barker and Tomlinson on the release of Obsession, which has now become one of the most talked-about movies of 2026. Starring Michael Johnston and X-Men star Inde Navarette, the movie centers around a man who makes his long-time crush fall in love with him through a supernatural wish that turns their lives upside down. During its theatrical run, the movie grossed $519 million against a budget of around $750,000, making it one of the most profitable movies of all time.
