Fox‘s divisive remake of a medical drama has become a streaming sensation at the perfect time, one week after reaching a major milestone. Medical dramas have become more widely recognized in recent years, with various storytelling approaches that make currently airing shows unique. This ranges from the extreme level of realism seen in The Pitt on HBO Max, to a more comedic take via NBC’s mockumentary sitcom St. Denis Medical. It’s proof that medical dramas lend themselves to a diverse number of storytelling approaches, all of which have something unique to say.
Doc is no exception. A remake of an Italian series of the same name, the show follows Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker), Chief of Internal Medicine at the fictional Westside Hospital. After a brutal car accident, Amy is affected with a traumatic brain injury that causes her to forget the last eight years of her life. Returning to the hospital as an attending physician, she attempts to get her career and life back together, especially following a now-unremembered divorce with her husband and another emotionally-potent secret. While reviews have been mixed, the medical drama is still ongoing.
Doc Has Gotten A Streaming Hit Diagnosis On Netflix
In addition to airing on Fox, the first two, complete seasons of Doc are also available on Netflix. Now, the series has become a streaming sensation on the platform, earning a major spot in its Top 10. According to data from September 29, 2026, Doc is currently the Number 8 TV show on Netflix in the United States. This puts it above a number of other notable releases, particularly the Netflix original series The Final Problem and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. The medical drama has clearly made a lasting impression on streaming audiences in the US.
New episodes of Doc air Tuesdays on Fox and stream the next day on Hulu, where it sits at Number 4 in the US.
The news of its streaming success comes just one week after Doc season 3 premiered on Fox. The show returned on September 22, 2026, and will air for 22 episodes across the 2026-27 TV season. It remains a strong-performing show for the network despite having considerably lower critical ratings than other medical dramas currently airing. As of writing, season 1 holds a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, but a 77% from audiences. It’s clear there’s a divide between both audiences, with viewers more enthralled by the story.
Where Does Doc Season 3 Pick Up The Story?
Doc season 3 picks up after the harrowing reveals of the season 2 finale, including that Amy and newcomer Dr. Ben Grant (Blair Underwood) had an affair at a medical conference. The revelation comes after Amy was rushed into surgery after an injury from an infected needle, recovering with a number of other notable characters. However, season 3 also sees a number of big casting shake-ups: Charlotte Fountain-Jardim’s Katie Hamda, Felicity Huffman as Dr. Joan Ridley, and Scott Wolf’s Dr. Richard Miller will not return for season 3.
Despite the departures, Doc season 3 is changing things up in even more exciting ways, too. Amy is now the co-chief resident with Sonya (Anya Banerjee), while Amy’s ex-husband, Michael (Omar Metwally), is the new Chief of Internal Medicine. With Ben also getting added to the main cast, it sounds like tensions on the Fox medical drama will be quite high. But, with the show proving itself popular on Netflix, it’s clear many viewers are on the edge of their seats to see what will happen next.
