Curry Barker’s horror sensation Obsession is getting another outing online, this time with the version fans have been waiting to see since the film’s theatrical release. JioHotstar has announced that Obsession: The Original Uncut Version will premiere on October 30 at 7 pm. The film will be available in English and Hindi on the platform’s dedicated horror vertical, The Peacock Hub.
Announcing the release, the streamer wrote on X, “Obsession: The Original Uncut Version, streaming 30th October, 7pm onwards on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar. Available in English and Hindi.”
The film follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, who comes into possession of a supernatural object called the One Wish Willow. He uses it to fulfil his deepest desire: for his friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, to fall in love with him. What begins as a seemingly irresistible wish soon spirals into something far darker. The film also features Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter in supporting roles.
The Story Behind the Uncut Version
What makes this release particularly intriguing is the controversy surrounding the film’s alternate cut. Several uncensored, more violent scenes that were reportedly excluded from the theatrical version leaked online months ago and quickly went viral. The footage offered audiences an unofficial glimpse of what the film looked like before it was trimmed for theatrical release.
The October 30 premiere will give the uncut version an official digital release, allowing viewers to experience the additional footage in the context of the full film.
Written, directed and edited by Barker, Obsession was reportedly made on a modest budget of $750,000. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025, before arriving in Indian theatres on May 29, 2026. The film has since emerged as a major independent horror success, with the supplied figures placing its worldwide box-office earnings at more than $500 million.
Following its theatrical run, the uncut digital premiere offers the film another opportunity to draw audiences in, while giving fans a chance to see the version that generated so much online curiosity.
