During the interview, Sara Ali Khan was asked about her recently released movie, Udta Teer and the inspiration that drew her towards picking up the project. To this, she said, “One thing that I’ve always aspired for in my career, and I’m lucky enough to have gotten to a large extent, is that each film should leave a distinct impact in your heart. You don’t ever do two films for the same reason. The reason I did Simmba (2018) was not the reason I did Kedarnath (2018). I did Udta Teer for the narration.”
Diving deeper into what caught her fancy about the story, she explains how a unique approach to story writing is important to attract the audience of the newer generation. She continued, “You hear a story, and you’re like, ‘You know what? I’m not even thinking as a character. I’m not even thinking as an actor. I’m thinking of a new age, young audience who feels that films like these are not made enough and need to be made.’”
She added, “There’s such a novelty in this film. It’s a patriotic comedy. It’s not jingoistic, but it’s still patriotic. And that really echoes with the youth.”
Talking more about what exactly differentiates Udta Teer from its competitors, Sara Ali Khan said, “The USP of this film is that there’s a freshness to it. I feel that sometimes people operate out of fear and copying. So, then there is a lack of originality because you’re trying to do the template that you think works. But in my limited years in the career that I’ve had, I have realised that there is no template that you can just copy. That is the USP of this film.”
She added to it, saying that this is an avatar unlike anything we’ve ever seen Ayushmann portray himself in. “I haven’t seen Ayushmann do this kind of action. I haven’t seen me play this kind of serious, grounded character. The premise seems so interesting to me… he comes from Pakistan and loses his memory. It’s so comical and interesting in an unseen way.”
