Alien Officially Returns Later This Year With Chariot Of The Angels

You can’t keep the Alien franchise down. Despite some mistakes following the first few mainline entries in the series, Alien might take an occasional hiatus, but it’s always present, whether in the form of Xenomorph toys or headline movies like Alien: Romulus.

Plus, we now have the Alien: Earth series on FX from Noah Hawley, bringing H.R. Giger’s twisted creations to more people. From the video game angle, Alien: Rogue Incursion launched a few years back, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is getting a sequel later this year, and Alien: Isolation 2 is in active development.

It’s been a refreshingly busy time for Alien, but now it’s going to get even more hectic. Per Free League Publishing, Chariot of the Angels is on the way.

Set for the fourth quarter of 2026, Chariot of the Angels Evolved Edition is coming to the Alien RPG. It’s a massive set crafted for three to five players and involves a “routine job” that goes horribly wrong. The Evolved Edition updates the previous version of the set, bringing it up to date with the latest rules and allowing compatibility with the miniatures line.

Here’s the quick breakdown of the story for Chariot of the Angels: “The job was routine, the money fair. Then the damn company diverted you to answer a distress call from a ship that disappeared almost 80 years ago – a derelict carrying something bizarre, twisted, and alien. What the ship’s frozen crew brought back with them was bad enough – what they themselves were turning into was a bloody nightmare. Add to that an annoying sensor ghost shadowing you in the void, and your stress level is shot. It’s all a bit much. You don’t get paid enough to deal with monsters. But hold your breath, count to three, and play your cards right with this one, and you just might walk away very rich. Oh, who am I kidding? You’re all going to die.”

If you spring for the boxed set, you’ll get the Chariot of the Angels book, two double-sized maps (34″x22″), five pre-generated characters, playing cards for agendas and NPCs, cardboard tokens, and GM maps. As expected, this RPG also comes with a content warning: “This is a horror game that includes dark and violent themes. It is not suitable for children.”

If you like the idea of an Alien RPG, there are some sets already available on Free League Publishing, as well as accessories like themed dice trays and dice. In fact, the team also notes that you’ll need the Alien RPG Core Rulebook to play Chariot of the Angels.

You’ll have to wait until nearly the end of 2026 to play the next chapter of the Alien RPG in Evolved form, though.
