Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders made a surprise appearance to introduced The Strokes prior to their hometown show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York, on Friday night.
“The greatest city in the world is now welcoming the greatest rock band of our generation,” AOC said before giving way to Sanders, who lauded The Strokes for “standing up for economic justice, fighting racism, understanding that healthcare is a human right, and understanding that we have all got to get out to vote, to stand up to authoritarianism.” Sanders closed his remarks by encouraging the crowd to vote in November.
The Strokes previously played a series of campaign rallies for Sanders when he ran for president in 2020.
