After its theatrical outing, Arjun Das and Anna Ben’s heist comedy drama Con City is all set to find a wider audience on OTT. The film, directed by debutant Harish Durairaj, will premiere on Netflix on July 24, giving viewers another chance to catch the unconventional caper from the comfort of their homes.

A Family Of Con Artists Heads To OTT

Released in theatres on June 26, Con City blended humour, family drama and crime into a fast-paced entertainer centred around a family with an unusual profession. Set against the backdrop of Mangalore, the story follows what appears to be an ordinary household. Beneath the surface, however, the family is a tightly knit gang of seasoned con artists who survive by pulling off elaborate scams.

Arjun Das and Anna Ben play the central couple, while veteran actor Vadivukkarasi and comedian Yogi Babu round out the quirky family dynamic. Their carefully constructed world is turned upside down when their differently-abled son, Jeeva, is kidnapped. Left with no other option, the family is forced to orchestrate one final high-stakes con in an attempt to identify the kidnapper and rescue the young boy.

The film’s premise stood out for combining emotional family stakes with the mechanics of a classic heist thriller. Instead of following hardened criminals or master thieves, Con City focused on an eccentric family whose unique skills become their greatest weapon when faced with a deeply personal crisis.

Ensemble Cast And A Fresh Directorial Voice

Con City marked the feature directorial debut of Harish Durairaj, who attempted to fuse multiple genres into a single narrative. Alongside its lead pair, the film boasts a large supporting cast that includes Akhilan, Nanda Gopal, Sakshi Vaidya, Dheepa Ramanujam, Arul Doss, Radha Ravi, Shaji Chen, Ramesh Thilak, Thambi Ramaiah, Imman Annachi, Baradwaj Rangan, Madan Dakshinamoorthy, Ragu Esaki, Ponvannan and Sathanand, among others.

The film opened to mixed responses from critics and audiences upon its theatrical release. While many appreciated its offbeat premise, quirky humour and the performances of its ensemble, opinions were divided over its execution and tonal shifts. Nevertheless, Con City generated curiosity for attempting something different within the commercial space, particularly by placing a family of scammers at the centre of an emotional rescue mission.

On the technical front, the film features cinematography by Aravind Viswanathan, whose visuals capture both the bustling streets and quieter corners of Mangalore. Editing is handled by Arulmoses A, while Raj Kamal serves as the art director, helping shape the film’s colourful visual identity.

Con City is produced by Power House Pictures in its maiden production venture, in association with M&M Movie Makers and Klout Studios. The project also marks another notable outing for Arjun Das, who has steadily expanded his range with diverse roles after making a lasting impression in Tamil cinema through films such as Kaithi and Master. Anna Ben, meanwhile, continues to balance Malayalam and Tamil projects while building a reputation for choosing character-driven stories.

With its blend of comedy, crime, action and family emotions, Con City now gets a second life on streaming. As OTT platforms continue to give theatrical releases a broader reach, the Netflix premiere could introduce the film to viewers who may have missed it on the big screen and spark fresh conversations around its unconventional premise.
