The Pitt season 2’s full trailer brings a dark theory about what’s coming for Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) to light, leaving the future of his time at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center unclear. Throughout The Pitt season 1, viewers got the chance to learn more about Dr. Robby as he cared for his staff and patients, but hardly took time to care for himself.
Dr. Robby, who leads the Emergency Department’s day shift, was plagued throughout The Pitt season 1 by his past, especially knowing it was the anniversary of his mentor, Dr. Montgomery Adamson’s, passing. Throughout the season, Dr. Robby struggled to maintain his own mental health as he gave everything to those around him, pushing his own boundaries further and further.
While Dr. Robby was able to confide at times in Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), the Emergency Department’s night shift lead with a similarly troubled background, it was clear that he needed time and space to decompress. That time and space wasn’t something he was interested in taking, but The Pitt season 2’s trailer has made it remarkably clear that things are changing at PTMC.

As The Pitt season 2 trailer unfolds, it quickly becomes clear that something’s going on with Dr. Robby, who’s been shown in a previous sequence to be riding into work on a motorcycle. The trailer makes it clear that Robby will be working his final shift prior to his upcoming sabbatical throughout the season, but things aren’t going well as the weekend progresses on.
The Pitt season 2, which focuses on Fourth of July weekend rather than a singular day in the life of PTMC’s finest, has finally confirmed that Robby is set to leave, but the trailer tugs on the notion consistently. With Abbot and others questioning his decision to be alone with his thoughts without true preparation, it’s possible Robby’s headed for a darkness he doesn’t quite understand.

The Pitt May Shake Things Up In Season 3
Although Dr. Robby is the central character of The Pitt, the show has been developing other pieces to its large puzzle in order to flesh out the world of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. With Robby finally taking his sabbatical, however hotly contested that may be, it’s clear that there could be some time where viewers don’t see Wyle’s beloved character during The Pitt season 3.
While the series, if it returns, may flash forward to Robby’s return from his time away, it’s also possible that another season could give way for something fans have been asking for. The Pitt’s night shift, with Abbot, Dr. John Shen (Ken Kirby), and Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris), could wind up being a focal point of the show in a future season.
