Dua Lipa is suing electronics maker Samsung for $15 million, claiming the company has utilized her image to sell TVs without her permission.

The Grammy-winning, dance-pop singer filed the copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit in California federal court May 8th alleging Samsung is using her photo on television boxes without her permission to push sales.

“Samsung’s infringing conduct — using Ms. Lipa’s assets for zero consideration — makes a mockery of her hard work in establishing a successful brand and has deprived her of the ability to control and monetize her assets,” the lawsuit said.

With her carefully curated brand and image, Lipa wouldn’t have leant her photo to sell the televisions, according to her attorneys.

The lawsuit includes an image of what it says is the infringing television box. On the box is a photograph of Lipa backstage at Austin City Limits in 2024, which the complaint said is a copyrighted image owned by the singer.

Lipa asserts Samsung has refused to stop using her image despite repeated demands. The electronics company “has been dismissive and callous” to her requests, according to the complaint.

“Samsung’s arrogance in refusing to stop its infringement confirms its conscious disregard of Ms. Lipa’s intellectual property and personal identity rights,” the court filing said.

The lawsuit includes quotes of posts on X that attorneys said prove customers are buying televisions because of Lipa’s photo.

“‘I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it,’” one X user is quoted in the lawsuit. Another is claimed to have said that they would “‘get that tv just because Dua is on it.’” Yet another said, “‘If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it,’” according to the complaint.

Lipa released her most recent studio album, “Radical Optimism,” in 2024 and toured throughout 2025. She ended her latter stretch of the US tour dates by bringing on other musicians, such as Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, on stage for duets.

Yesterday, Dua Lipa sued Samsung for using her image on TV boxes without permission.

She seeks actual damages of at least $15 million.

She alleges straightforward claims for violating her publicity rights and false endorsement, in addition to copyright and trademark claims.… pic.twitter.com/tUkJ5xg5cn
