Exclusive: It Hurts When People Judge Your Intention – Triptii Dimri

Over the last few years, Triptii Dimri has witnessed a dramatic shift in the way audiences perceive her. When films like Bulbbul (2020) and Qala (2022) were released, conversations around the actor were heavily centred on her performances, but as her popularity grew and she entered mainstream commercial spaces, the narrative around her slowly began changing too. The focus increasingly moved away from her craft and more towards her appearance, with the actor often finding herself over-sexualised.

Now, with Suresh Triveni’s upcoming film Maa Behen, Triptii feels she is once again stepping into a space where performance takes centre stage. Speaking to Filmfare about the film, the actor explained that Maa Behen stood out to her because of how unusual the world of the story felt.

“Maa Behen is refreshing because it’s a quirky script. The characters that Madhuri Dixit, Dharna Durga and I am playing are very quirky as well. We had a lot of fun while doing it because I let go. I was not trying to be anybody. I could just experiment a lot with my craft with Maa Behen, and that’s one of the main reasons for me to do the film. Also, I love the script.”

She also reflected on the constant scrutiny women face. Triptii continued, “Women are judged anyway. Whatever you do, you’re judged. People will say something, and half will be upset with you, and it goes on and on. There’s nothing you can do about it. You have to do whatever you’re doing with utmost honesty. I make sure that I put in my 200% in whatever I do. I make sure that I’m comfortable and confident in doing what I’m doing. I also make sure that I’m surrounded by people who genuinely love me and whom I love.”

However, there are still certain kinds of criticism that hurt more deeply than others.

“You have to look out for yourself, and that’s it. People will talk. Everybody has a right to an opinion, but when they judge your intention, that is when it hurts because you don’t know what my intention is. There are days when you can filter out the noise, and there are days you let it affect you. That’s all part of growing. It does pinch you a little, but I use it in acting.”

Directed by Suresh Triveni, Maa Behen stars Madhuri Dixit, Ravi Kishan, Triptii Dimri and Dharna Durga, among others. It will be released on Netflix on June 4.
