Bay Area heroes Green Day have been tapped to perform during the opening ceremony of Super Bowl LX airing live on NBC on February 8th at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame punk band will take the stage at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT, and play a medley of their biggest hits as the NFL honors its past Super Bowl MVPs. Green Day’s performance will precede Charlie Puth singing the national anthem; Brandi Carlile performing “America the Beautiful”; and Coco Jones singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard,” said Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation, added, “Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who’ve helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX. As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”

As previously reported, Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

Meanwhile, Green Day were also recently announced as the headliner of “The Fanduel Party” pre-Super Bowl concert taking place on February 6th at Pier 29 in San Francisco. Counting Crows are also on the bill.
