Michael Mann is finally set to begin production on Heat 2 this fall, with an all-star cast led by Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio.

According to a new report from TheWrap, Bale is set to star as Vincent Hanna, taking over the role Al Pacino played in Mann’s original 1995 heist thriller. DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherlis, the character originated by Val Kilmer.

They’ll be joined by Stephen Graham as Neil McCauley, the role previously played by Robert De Niro, while Adam Driver is in talks to portray the film’s villain, Wardell. The role of the female lead (the role portrayed by Ashley Judd in the original film) is still being sorted.

Heat 2 is based on Mann’s 2022 novel of the same name, co-written with Meg Gardiner (order here). Serving as both a prequel and sequel to the original film, the book follows several Heat characters across storylines set before and after the events of the 1995 classic.
