Being able to mod the latest PC game is part of the fun when it comes to some of our favorite releases. Telling somebody that you play vanilla The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2026 is like telling somebody you shower with your socks on, and whether it is done officially or not, modders have always found a way to make the latest AAA run and look better, as well as offering new and unique content that will have you returning to the game for years after its release.
That is already the case for Hogwarts Legacy, as despite only just celebrating its 3rd anniversary, it is already home to thousands of mods. With many players criticizing Avalanche Software for its lack of post-game content, it makes sense that modders saw this as an opportunity to work their magic and now, over the years, the Harry Potter-inspired RPG has welcomed everything from an Azkaban map to multiplayer modes.
Whilst modding games is often done without the official support of the game’s developer, this is not the case for Hogwarts Legacy as it was not long before its Creator Kit was released. Allowing players to officially mod Hogwarts Legacy on PC, the kit offers all the tools they need to create, test, and share custom content to the game.
As you can imagine, this has allowed modders to go wild and unleash their creativity. However, some fans are not convinced that the Creator Kit is the best thing for Hogwarts Legacy and took to r/HarryPotterGame to share their thoughts.
“Are we really going to pretend that this is completely normal?” One user asked, alongside an image of a mod showcasing a wizard flying a taxidermy cat. “What the hell is wrong with this freaking cat? Did you really put this on the cover? Are you seriously offering me to fly on a taxidermy giant cat?”
Although mods can often be useful ways to improve the game and add new content, a modder’s mind knows no bounds, and it is often that we will see some whacky additions. However, you control the buttons you press, and if you do not want to ride a giant taxidermy cat in Hogwarts Legacy, you do not have to.
“If this shocks you, don’t ever look up Skyrim mods,” one user joked. Another agreed, adding, “In a world of the most magic in generations, you draw the line at a flying stuffed house cat?” With another user claiming that they had their character riding around on a giant Shrek, it seems as though whimsy is a must-have if you wish to enjoy the modding scene as a whole.
Not only that, but it just goes to show what is possible thanks to the official Creator Kit for Hogwarts Legacy, and we can only imagine what will be possible by the time the highly anticipated sequel is finally released.
