The cute and cartoony vibe of Animal Crossing doesn’t sound like something that would blend well with the horrific scenes that can be viewed in Jurassic Park. One upcoming game, which is currently free to playtest on Steam, certainly shows that while this blend can work, it also seems to lead to quite a bit of chaos for the unlucky characters involved. In fact, even Tom Nook might back away from this particular business plan.
The perhaps hopefully named Very Safe Dino Park doesn’t shy away from putting characters into some scary situations in this management sim featuring adorably dangerous dinosaurs. Very Safe Dino Park lets you build and manage your own little prehistoric theme park, along with your friends. The one- to four-player co-op game takes you behind the scenes of raising dinos, selling tickets to the park, and dealing with some unavoidable messes that come with the job.
While it’s certainly more cheerful than some other dinosaur-themed titles, this self-proclaimed friendslop game still has quite a bit of danger. Of course, much of that could be man-made as you lock your friends in dino enclosures, tranquilize them, or even throw poop at them. Alternatively, you could simply sabotage some of their work behind their backs.
Yet, if you work together, the Very Safe Dino Park could actually work out okay. Well, maybe. Carefully building safe enclosures, turning dino poop into biofuel, keeping the electricity on, and even decorating your park to attract guests can lead to a beautifully maintained park. And you can still offer some of the more difficult rule-breaking patrons up to the dinosaurs if you’d like. But it doesn’t take much for a hungry dinosaur to decide to take matters into its own hands, or teeth.
Summer can be the ideal time to enjoy multiplayer gaming, and these types of “friendslop” titles are generally easy to learn and lead to lots of laughs and bonding, at least as long as someone isn’t throwing a keyboard across the room. These games might not be the most polished or graphically intense, but they also don’t take themselves too seriously and can be extremely amusing to play with the right friends.
Very Safe Dino Park clearly is following this comedic route, offering plenty of chaos. Giving clear objectives and goals helps to add some foundations to the game, but whether all the players want to work together to meet those goals is generally up for debate. And the more chaos that is caused, the more laughter ensues.
